Joan of Arc, a meager peasant girl, lead the French army on May 8, 1429 to take back the city of Orleans. She believed God had chosen her to lead the French to victory over the English. She took back the city and lead the French in many more victories, with no military training at all. At 19 she was captured by the English, tried for witchcraft, convicted, and burnt at the stake.
In 1920, the Roman Catholic Church officially recognizied Joan of Arc as a Christian Saint.
This stunning sterling silver pattern was first introduced by the International Silver Co. in 1940. The patterns traditional curves and shell motif give the pattern a modern and sensible feel. The rococo scrolls and finely carved borders exude such strength and femininity. Representing the heroin for which it was sculpted. She continues as one of history's great saints and will forever remain a French symbol of unity and nationalism.
This wrap ring measures .65 in. at its widest in the front, and .20 in at its widest in the back. I used a dainty demitasse size spoon for this gem.
